Ground Improvement
Many sites have unique challenges, which often require the use of specialty contractors during construction due to poor soil conditions, often highly compressible, low-strength materials that provide challenges for meeting settlement criteria for the proposed construction activities. Other challenges are presented due to past mining activities and the development of sinkholes in karst-prone areas.
We understand the role and responsibilities of both the designer and specialty ground improvement contractor and have guided these types of projects to successful completion on schedule. It is necessary to understand the applicable ground improvement technologies, identify the contractors with proven work histories for completing similar projects, and be able to develop sufficient performance criteria specifications to allow the contractors to bid on the project.
Our work on ground improvement has included projects using undercuts, lightweight fill, mine grouting, deep dynamic compaction, wick drains, rigid inclusions, slurry cut-off-walls, deep soil mixing, pressure grout injection, and stone columns.
